Emir Kusturica Demands Release of Cuban Antiterrorists Imprisoned in the US
  Cuban News Agency
  2010-02-17

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 17 (acn) Renowned Serbian filmmaker and musician Emir Kusturica demanded on Tuesday the release of five Cuban antiterrorists who remain unjustly imprisoned in the United States since 1998.

Kusturica, who is on a tour around Argentina accompanied by his band ‘The No Smoking Orchestra’, asked US President Barack Obama to release Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino and Fernando Gonzalez – internationally known as the Cuban Five –, who were arrested and given harsh and unjust sentences for monitoring extremist groups in South Florida that were planning and carrying out terrorist actions against Cuba.

On Tuesday, Kusturica visited the Patagonia area, where he received the Guest of Honor distinction in the city of Neuquen.

According to Prensa Latina news agency, the Serbian artist met with local social activists and signed a postcard demanding the immediate release of the Cuban Five.

The postcard recalls that 10 Nobel Prize winners have also issued the same demand to the White House.
